Tips for Success
-
Come physically prepared. Starting the academy out of shape is setting yourself
up for failure.
-
Spend some time learning about the history of the fire service, especially that
of the Clark County Fire Department, prior to your
first day.
-
Understand that you are making an investment in your future. This is a
significant undertaking and should be looked upon as such.
-
Realize that you are entering into a career in which people’s lives are at
stake, including your own. There is a seriousness and responsibility that
accompanies this fact.
-
If you haven‘t already, learn how to work and succeed in a team-oriented
environment. In the fire service and the fire academy we eat, work, succeed,
and fail as a team.
-
Learn and live the Clark County Fire Department mission statement. Don’t just
memorize it. Understand what the mission statement is saying at its core.
-
From this day forward you are a public servant and represent the Clark County
Fire Department. Customer service is what you provide whether its 2pm or 2am.
-
Rest when you have time and take care of your body. Proper nutrition and
rest/recovery time is essential during the fire academy. If you have questions
please ask your cadre they will be more than happy to help.
-
Success is a state of mind. Unfortunately so is failure. Preparation and hard
work serve to assist in attaining a successful state of mind.
-
Before, during, and after the recruit academy take a moment and say thank you
to all those people who have helped you attain your goal of becoming a
firefighter. Without them none of this would have been possible.
